ChessPM is Windows chess training software that analyzes your games to find mistakes and tactical opportunities, helps you build and improve your opening repertoire, and shows you the gaps and missed opportunities you may otherwise overlook — then turns the results into a personal training course built around you.
Most chess software gives you someone else's puzzles. ChessPM builds training material from your own games, your opening repertoire, and any player's real tournament history — then turns the positions it finds into training material.
Run the engine over a single move, a whole game, or an entire PGN collection to automatically flag moves where the evaluation swung beyond a configurable threshold. Scans can be paused and resumed, making the tool practical even for large collections, and can optionally be restricted to one player's moves.
Detection is fully tunable: sensitivity for near-equal versus already-decided positions, tolerance for equally-good alternatives, cut-off rules that avoid missing lost chances even in a winning position, and a manual 0–9 severity scale.
Every flagged moment can be transferred directly into an exercise file for training, with automatic duplicate-position checking.
automatic mistake detection · configurable · pause & resumeScan full games or selected fragments and automatically extract genuinely useful training moments — not only classic tactics such as sacrifices, forks and mating nets, but also clean technical continuations that press an advantage. ChessPM checks the games across fourteen distinct trigger types and automatically extends each detected line backward for context and forward to demonstrate the complete idea.
A series of validity checks filters out near-draws and buried mistakes in already-decided positions. Every confirmed tactic is saved as its own exercise with an automatically estimated 1–7 difficulty rating, and exercises can be split into separate files by difficulty — useful for building training sets matched to a player's or student's level.
14 trigger types · auto-rated 1–7 · training filesBuild an opening repertoire from your own games or automatically create one from the real tournament games of a selected player. The Auto-Repertoire Builder uses how often and how recently a player chose each line to build a practical repertoire from real games rather than theory books alone.
Review your repertoire move by move with a tree of statistically likely replies at every position, then test it interactively. ChessPM checks your move against the recorded repertoire line while allowing multiple valid theoretical alternatives where they exist. Testing can start from any move number, so you can skip the opening moves you already know well.
You can also cross-check positions against a large book to see how often real games followed your repertoire move and how often they won, or open actual games that reached the same position. Repertoire training can be done interactively or through a dedicated exercise file using the same Position Manager and Training system as your other exercises.
build · review · test · real-game statisticsCompare your opening repertoire with the games of strong players to find lines and ideas you are not currently covering. Missed Opportunities goes in the other direction: it scans positions already in your repertoire and uses the engine to identify moves that are objectively stronger than the ones you recorded.
Together, the two tools help you discover both sides of the problem: important ideas you have not included yet, and improvements hidden inside the repertoire you already have.
Find Gaps · Missed OpportunitiesTrain through your exercise files with real statistics for every position: attempts, accuracy, average solving time, and complete solving history. A dedicated progress screen shows exactly where you stand — for example, “solved 217 of 221” — and progress can be reset whenever you want.
Solve continuously or one position at a time, in sequential or shuffled order. You can restrict training to unsolved or not-yet-seen positions, or choose an ID range when working through a large exercise file in batches. Optional per-move time limits and a “retry before moving on” mode add further control.
Progress is saved automatically, so you can close ChessPM at any time and continue later exactly where you stopped.
Positions from the Scanner, Tactics Builder, repertoire tests, and other ChessPM tools can all use the same training infrastructure.
statistics · history · retry · shuffle · progress trackingChessPM is developed under the direction of IM Michael Pasman, a lifelong chess player and software developer with decades of experience in both chess and technology.
Composition is one of the most exacting disciplines in chess: every study has to be provably correct, with no accidental second solution. That same insistence on correctness — an engine verifying every claim rather than a rough pattern match — is built into how ChessPM finds tactics and mistakes in your games.
Load a PGN of your own games, your tournament archive, your blitz games, or a specific player's game collection.
Scan games for mistakes and tactical opportunities, build or improve your opening repertoire, and compare it with strong players to find gaps and missed opportunities.
Send the positions you discover into ChessPM's training system and solve them with statistics, progress tracking, retry options and flexible ordering.
Build your opening repertoire, find mistakes and tactical opportunities, discover what you are missing, and train on the positions that matter to you. 21 days, full access, no credit card.
